[She hasn't even moved from her makeshift bed, actually, having not had time to actually buy a bed that she can keep up here since she's sure that Dandy won't let her have the bed in the room she used to stay in.
She's actually been staring at her laptop, flicking through the images that were saved of her with her friends from home.
Though when she hears Maya's voice, she slams the lid shut and looks over, guilt washing over her even if Maya's injuries aren't necessarily obvious.]
[Says Maya, not looking at Makoto anymore-- more into space, as if confused, as she admits it out loud. It doesn't make any sense, it doesn't play by the new rules-- and are there any rules when there are gods like this?]
[Maya notices the way Makoto stiffens, and the source of her pain changes. She plants her butt down on the floor instead, supporting herself with her arm, and leans closer as though that was all her intent in the first place.]
Yeah. Sometimes. It's... like this place has no rules.
[She brings her arm closer to her side, frustrated with the ambiguity of it all.]
Sometimes people disappear and come back, sometimes they don't. Sometimes they die and come back, sometimes they don't. Sometimes-- sometimes they come back and they don't even remember anything!
[She's trying hard to be strong for Dandy and Makoto, but it's getting harder and harder the fewer clues turn up.]
[Maya doesn't answer immediately, looking down at the wood of the barn platform they're on as if secrets reside within the wood grain. When she finds nothing she gives another little sigh and rubs at her cheeks with her palms, shakes the hair out of her face, and looks back at Makoto.
Her face falls again as she realises she still hasn't come up with an answer.]

What... happened?

Like, for real.

He's—dead? For real?
[Why do people keep dying?]
no subject
That's-- that's what I heard. I mean, maybe he could turn up in the next fog, but-- but if he doesn't...
[Maya frowns, pushing a hand through her hair.]
I didn't even think this could happen.

[Because even though she knows that it might not be so, she wants to believe.]

[Maya sighs, crawling over the barn floor to get closer to Makoto.]
It's. Happened before.

It has?

Yeah. Sometimes. It's... like this place has no rules.

[She clutches at her arms, nails digging into her arms.]
I don't get how people can like her so much when she can get away with doing this kind of thing.

Her face falls again as she realises she still hasn't come up with an answer.]
...Me either.
But... we're gonna do something about it.
no subject
We have to. I—I've got people I can talk to. We're already doing things. Kind of. But we could do more.
no subject
[Maya's interest is instantly piqued-- more witnesses to interrogate.]
Like who?
no subject
[Because she was loud and vocal about her distaste and she still is.]
no subject
[Which... is what she knows that Rin by. He has the fun name! Sharkattack!]
